Are you looking to enhance your te reo skills and become more confident in using the language in your daily life? This program is designed to provide a complete immersion experience for those who already have a good understanding of te reo Māori.

The programme is aimed at emergent speakers of the language who have an advanced understanding and ability to use the language - kia tika, kia rere, kia Māori.

You will learn:

Ngā Aitua (national disasters)
Research into Waka, Mōteatea, Māori folklore, traditional and contemporary stories
Reo ōkawa (formal language)
Composing karakia and waiata
Karakia (prayer)
Waiata (songs)
Whakataukī (proverbs)
Kīwaha (sayings)

If you have not studied te reo Māori with us before you will need to come in for an interview so we can make sure you are studying at the right level for you.

Academic requirements

Te Reo Māori NCEA at Level 3 or Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Te Kaupae 4) or equivalent.

English language requirements

All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level. Those applicants whose first language is not English should have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall Academic score of at least 5.5 issued within the last two years (or equivalent). Refer to NZQA for more information.(external link)

Special Entry

In exceptional circumstances, an applicant who does not meet the academic entry requirements may be granted entry to the programme at the discretion of the selection panel and Curriculum Manager or delegate.
