NMIT Scholarships

NMIT Degree Scholarship

Value: Maximum value of $6,500 towards first year programme fees only. If eligible for fees free then the fees will be applied to second year of study.

Eligibility: Any degree programme offered by NMIT (excluding AUT Bachelor in Sports and Recreation). Full-time study only. Find full criteria and eligibility in the terms of reference [PDF, 82 KB].

NMIT School Leaver Scholarship

Value: Maximum value of $6,500 towards second year programme fees only.

Eligibility: Any degree programme offered by NMIT (excluding AUT Bachelor in Sports and Recreation). Full-time study only. Find full criteria and eligibility in the terms of reference [PDF, 81 KB].

Aquaculture

New Zealand King Salmon Scholarship - Aquaculture first year

Value: 50% reduction towards programme fees in the NMIT Bachelor of Aquaculture and Marine Conservation.

New Zealand King Salmon Scholarship - Aquaculture third year or Postgraduate Diploma

Value: Full payment of programme fees in the NMIT Bachelor of Aquaculture and Marine Conservation for the third year or for Postgraduate Diploma students.

Eligibility: Applicants must be fully enrolled on either their third year of the NMIT Bachelor of Aquaculture and Marine Conservation or the Postgraduate Diploma. View terms of reference [PDF, 99 KB].

Nelson Pine Industries Limited - Business Scholarship

Value: A payment of $1,000 towards one year of study in an NMIT business-related programme.

Value: A payment of $5,000 towards one year of study in the NMIT Bachelor of Commerce.

Nelson Pine Industries Limited - Construction Scholarship

Value: A payment of $1,000 towards course related costs for the NMIT New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade skills.

Scholarships for Māori learners

Te Puna Manaaki (Māori learner Support Services)(external link) are available to assist you with your scholarship application. Our experienced staff offer one-to-one advice and support sessions, tutorials, study wānanga, and a range of workshops to help you achieve your study goals. We are located within Te Toki Pakohe, our space includes whānau rooms with computer facilities, study areas, kitchen facilities, and space to meet with peers or tuākana.

2022 Ngārimu Scholarships

In 2022, the Ngarimu VC and 28th (Māori) Battalion Scholarship Fund Board has three Vocational Education and Training scholarships available, each valued at $10,000 for study of a minimum of 120 credits.

Applicants must be enrolled in a Certificate or Diploma at Levels 5 to 7 non-degree that is a minimum 120 credits.

Te Pae Tawhiti Kaimoana Enhancement Scholarship

This scholarship is designed for Māori who have a desire to contribute to the enhancement of the Māori kaimoana industry. View scholarship brochure here [PDF, 1.4 MB] and apply online(external link).

Scholarships for Pasifika learners

Tulī Takes Flight Scholarships

The Tulī Takes Flight (Tulī) scholarship is a part of the gesture of goodwill and reconciliation to Aotearoa Pacific communities that followed the Government’s apology for the Dawn Raids that occurred in the 1970s.

The Tulī scholarship can also support people changing careers or, taking up opportunities in fields of study or training that have limited Pacific presence.

Value: A payment of $1,000 towards an NMIT programme fees.

Partnership Scholarships

Kono Ahumahi Scholarship

Thinking of a career in the primary industries? The Kono Ahumahi scholarship is a partnership between Wakatū Incorporation and Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT).

The scholarship is aimed at those studying or thinking of studying at NMIT for a career in the aquaculture, horticulture, viticulture and food sectors, or supporting industries such as engineering, automotive engineering, and logistics.

The scholarship covers two-thirds of the student’s annual NMIT fees, up to a maximum of three years. The successful applicant will also be supported through mentoring.

To be eligible, you must be of Māori descent and planning full-time study at NMIT. Priority will be given to applicants with a whakapapa connection to Wakatū Incorporation.
