More support, more services and more in the team

Creating a good learning experience, together with academic success for our learners, is at the core of pretty much everything we do at NMIT.

Caesey Petterson, Wellbeing Coordinator and Nick Baker, Student Mental Health Specialist and Counsellor are part of the NMIT Learner Services wellbeing team.

The Learner Services Wellbeing team, in conjunction with SANITI, Te Puna Manaaki, the Nelson Tasman Pasifika Community Trust, and the Marlborough student support team, all have a role in making this happen for our learners.

The support occurs in a variety of ways including, wellbeing, counselling, career planning, financial planning, and study skills.

How do you know if a learner needs assistance?

Learners sometimes hesitate to ask for help. So, it’s important for staff, through their contact and relationships with learners, to identify their needs and help them seek support.

Referrals to the learner services team can come from any staff member—academic or business support.  Just use the request library, study and wellbeing services online form(external link).

The form is adaptive and as questions are answered the options change. This referral is transparent to the learner, who also receives a copy.

For 24/7 urgent wellbeing assistance for NMIT students, call 0800 718 277 anytime. A huge thanks to the Information & Enrolments team for getting the 0800 number on the back of all the new student ID cards.

The OCP external counselling service is completely confidential and also available free to any NMIT learner. Book online My OCP Employee Assistance, Training & Support(external link) or phone 0800 377 990.
